Oboe: audition and classical music jobs

A musician who focuses on playing the oboe, a woodwind instrument that is especially common in the classical music genre, is known as an oboist. Even though the oboe isn’t that popular as an instrument in itself, its practitioners can still climb to respectable heights in their fame and popularity if they’re good enough, especially if they manage to secure music jobs in renowned orchestras. Oboists rarely practice alone due to the nature of the instrument, though there are some exceptions. Additionally, the oboe is sometimes used outside of classical music as well.
Getting to be a good oboist takes a lot of time and patience. Most oboists show interest in the instrument from an early age, though not all the successful oboists start with that instrument in particular – in some cases, they may start off with a different one, building up one’s musical interest and taste in general. Renowned orchestras usually require several years of experience from candidates for oboists in their lines, though they also tend to pay quite well too.
Orchestra Audition: oboe, job postings and listings

Since the oboe is a very difficult instrument, getting a private instructor as soon as possible is advised. Oboists must practice every day in order to strengthen their muscles and increase their stamina. The oboe is one of the most challenging instruments to master, but is often in demand and can offer many opportunities for the player, including playing some of the repertoire’s most beautiful solos.

Orchestra jobs

The oboe is said to be one of the more difficult woodwind instruments to play. It first takes some time until the player can even produce a sound, and even then, a beginner has little ability to control it. There are many difficulties: Among other potential problems, the player may not be able to play a note high enough; he or she may be unable to produce a pp (pianissimo) note; or the note may not come out when the player intends, messing up the timing. This difficulty makes the joy when the player produces music well all the more exquisite. It would seem to be a challenging instrument.
Unlike with other wind instruments, there tends to be an excess of breath. Therefore, there is no handicap for people with small bodies. There is no issue for people with small hands because the structure of the keys is also more compact than that of the clarinet or the flute, and players do not need to directly press their fingers on the holes. Arguably, people with small hands even have an advantage.
Players must create the reeds for their oboes themselves, so the instrument would seem to be suited for people who enjoy detailed handiwork.

The oboe belongs to the woodwind family, like clarinets, saxophones and flutes for example.
Notes are played by blowing air into the instrument and pressing keys with the fingers. Unlike many woodwind instruments, there is no mounthpiece on an oboe and the double reed can been seen sticking out of the top of the instrument.
