Phion Symphony Orchestra 
One of the most innovative and prominent orchestras in the Netherlands. Performing at the highest artistic level, our aim is to reach as many people as possible with live symphonic music through an extensive and varied programme. From large symphonic repertoire to smaller and more intimate productions, from popular repertoire to exciting crossovers, from educational productions to new concert formulas in special locations. We continue to innovate and explore new concepts and productions with institutions such as opera, dance and (youth) theatre. Phion is based in Gelderland and Overijssel and operates from two locations: Arnhem and Enschede. 
Phion Heersink Academy  
The Phion Heersink Academy is the bridge between your education and the professional world of music. For the 2027–2028 season, we are looking for five talented musicians to join our Academy. As an Academy member, you will collaborate with renowned conductors, soloists, and experienced orchestra musicians.
If selected, this is your opportunity to take part in symphonic, opera, educational, and chamber music productions across Orkest Phion’s diverse repertoire.
Beyond the artistic experience, you will receive audition training, coaching and access to masterclasses and workshops.
All-in all, it’s a complete and valuable next step on your path toward a successful career as a professional musician.
  
Phion Symphony Orchestra & Phion Heersink Academy are looking for:  
Academist Viola 
For approximately 10 weeks from august ’27- july ‘28
Position 
The vacancy is for the position of Academist Viola.
As a member of our orchestra, you will regularly rehearse and perform in Arnhem and Enschede, and perform throughout Gelderland, Overijssel and beyond.  
Profile 
-You will not be older than 27 years of age on 1 September 2027. 
-You should preferably have completed your Master's degree at a conservatory, but it is also possible to apply if you will be in the second year of your Master's degree by September 2026. 
-This vacancy is only open to EU citizens and citizens form Iceland, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein (EEA), or other musicians already holding a non-temporary residence permit for the Netherlands with full work authorization (in that case, a copy of the work permit is necessary).
-You will be available for a minimum of ten weeks to participate in various productions that reflect Phion's programming. 
 Candidates who are invited to the audition will receive a detailed list and scores in due course. 
 
Terms of Employment 
·  An Academist contract for the Academy for 10 weeks during the period from August 2027 to July 2028.  
·  The schedule of the weeks in which participation is expected to take place will be announced before the summer of 2027. 
·  Terms of contract, playing obligations, and remuneration according to the Collective Labour Agreement Remplaçanten; 
·  The position is located in Enschede/Arnhem. 
 
Selection procedure 
·  A pre-selection will be made on the basis of on the CV and the audition video; 
·  Candidates from non-EU countries must be in possession of a valid work and residence permit for the Netherlands and are requested to enclose this permit with their application; 
·  The selection will be made on the basis of an audition. If a candidate is nominated by the audition committee, an interview will take place.
