The Arturo Toscanini Foundation announces an international competition for the permanent appointment to the following position in its Orchestras:
PRINCIPAL VIOLA WITH OBLIGATION TO PLAY IN THE SECTION - 1 position
Requirements for admission to the competition
Age not less than 18 years;
Italian citizenship or citizenship of a European Union country. Non-EU citizens legally residing in Italy are also admitted to the competition;
Enjoyment of civil and political rights;
Second-level degree or Old System Diploma related to the instrument for which the competition is announced, obtained from a Conservatory or equivalent musical institution, or equivalent certification for qualifications obtained abroad;
Physical suitability for the job;
Not having incurred criminal convictions for which dismissal from public administration employment is provided, nor having been dismissed from previous employment for having obtained the appointment through false or invalid documents that cannot be rectified.
The prescribed requirements must be met by the application deadline.
The examination sessions are scheduled, barring unforeseen changes, at the Arturo Toscanini Foundation headquarters on January 9 and 10, 2027; notification will be sent exclusively via electronic means to the address indicated by the candidate in the application form.
Competitors must present themselves with a valid identity document and all materials related to the examination program.
The Foundation will provide an accompanying pianist for the candidates. However, the competitor may use their own pianist at their own expense.
The competition will be structured in the following phases:
PRELIMINARY ROUND
SECOND ROUND
FINAL ROUND
The committee reserves the right to admit directly to the second round or the final those competitors whose artistic merits are considered particularly outstanding.
Absence from the examinations will in any case be considered as withdrawal from the competition.
The preliminary round and the second round will be conducted in such a way as to guarantee the anonymity of each participant.
The Judging Committee may decide to divide the individual phases of the competition into multiple hearings.
The Judging Committee and the candidates will be asked to avoid any contact or communication with the outside by deactivating and/or, if necessary, handing over devices (smartphones, tablets, phones, PCs, or other) to the assigned personnel. Violation of these provisions will result in exclusion from the competition.
Participants in the competition are not entitled to any allowance, compensation, or reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses.
The lack of even one of the requirements requested by the announcement or the failure to produce the required documents will result in exclusion from the competition or the annulment of the examinations taken.
Examinations taken by competitors whose declarations are found to be untrue or inaccurate will be considered null and void.
