Fundamentals of Violin | Juilliard Extension United States | New York City Posted 25 Jul 2025 Courses Violin This beginner violin course offers a friendly and engaging introduction to playing the violin—the instrument that arguably most closely represents the human voice. This course welcomes those who may be starting to play for the first time and those who are returning to the instrument and wishing to strengthen their grasp of the fundamentals. Classes are held in a nurturing small group setting with opportunities for individual work. No prior experience in reading music is required. This course will focus on developing a healthy technique foundation through both tailored technical exercises and enjoyable repertoire learned by rote. Required Materials: Full size violin (4/4), full size bow (4/4), violin rosin, shoulder rest. Optional weekly office hours and coaching sessions with faculty will be available on Wednesdays from 5:30–6:30pm via Zoom.
