The Instrumental Learning Team deliver a year-round programme of high quality and engaging group music tuition within the Young Musicians Studio, promoting musical excellence to young people from all backgrounds and providing development pathways for committed and enthusiastic young people to realise their musical potential.
Key Accountabilities:
- As part of a team of tutors, plan and deliver tuition at the Young Musicians Studio, integrating musicianship, instrumental skills and ensemble playing and ensuring good technique is being implemented.
- Direct ensembles at rehearsals, workshops and performances where required.
- Offer musical and programme-related support, advice and expertise to children, staff and parents where appropriate.
- Ensure monitoring and self-evaluation of teaching and learning methods, to track progress of all participants and develop best practice at an individual level and across the wider team.
- Support the team by providing knowledge and practical advice regarding instrument repairs, maintenance and instrument and accessory purchases.
- Attend communication, planning and development meetings as required.
- Perform related duties or projects as assigned / directed.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications:
- Solid classical instrumental music training and a demonstrable high level of musical skill and literacy.
Experience / skills required:
- Experience of working in a professional capacity as an instrument player and tutor.
- Understanding of musical pedagogy in relation to instrumental learning; from beginner upwards.
- Knowledge of instrumental repertoire suitable for children and young people in a variety of contexts.

- Demonstrable commitment to and enthusiasm for a high-quality group teaching model.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people from different backgrounds.
Additional Responsibilities:
- As this post supports work with children and young people on a regular basis, DBS Enhanced Clearance is required.
- As this role supports work in professional settings, a good standard of personal presentation is required.
- As a member of the wider Learning & Engagement team, this post requires the ability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends where required.
Terms and Conditions:
Contract type: Permanent
Salary: £31,666 per annum (pro rata)
Hours of work: 3.5 hours per week (During term time, attendance is expected at the Young Musicians Studio on Saturday mornings 9:30am – 1pm)
