Position Summary:
The Florida Orchestra seeks an accomplished cellist and educator to serve as a Teaching Artist within its Education & Community Impact Program. This full-time position combines classroom instruction in Pinellas County public schools with performance opportunities as a substitute musician for The Florida Orchestra. The successful candidate will inspire student musicians, support orchestra educators, and help expand access to high-quality music education throughout the community.
Artistic/Performance: Teaching artists perform as a substitute musician for a minimum set service count as well as any additional chamber, educational performances, or presentations.
Education/Teaching: Teaching artists visit orchestra classroom weekly throughout Pinellas County, working closely with both music program directors and student musicians. Teaching artists are assigned a set number of education, or non-performance, hours per school year.
The Cello Teaching Artist will join and collaborate closely with the Violin and Viola Teaching Artists to serve over 30+ schools in the area.
Additionally, the cello teaching artist will collaborate as a creative thought partner to the current teaching artists as well as departmental leadership.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this exempt position is $46,000-$51,000 to commensurate with experience. Additional off-contract opportunities offered throughout the year and summer. -Medical, dental, and vision insurance -Paid vacation and company holidays -403(b) retirement plan with employer match -Full-time, exempt position operating on a 48-week annual schedule, with the month of July designated as non-working time. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
Skills and Background Education:
-Bachelor's degree in music performance or a related field. -Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an instructional setting of any type; variety in context is preferred. -Highly organized, self-driven, and able to meet deadlines. -Ability to populate and manage schedules independently. -Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, educators, administrators, and community stakeholders. -Ability to communicate clearly about the overall goals, objectives, and strategies of the program as well as the Education & Community Department. -Must be able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities to maximize time spent in compliance with the contractual framework. -Regular travel throughout Pinellas County is required. Reliable transportation is necessary.
