Scope and Field of the Position The position is a 20 percent fixed-term appointment as Professor II in Baroque Violin (primarily, though applications from Baroque cellists may also be considered) for a four-year term, with an expected start date of August 1, 2026. The academic field of the position is Baroque Violin, or alternatively Baroque Cello, and historically informed performance. Responsibilities The responsibilities include teaching and supervising students, both individually and in ensembles. The appointed person is expected to take an active role in the academic environment and engage in professional collaboration with colleagues. Close collaboration with the academy’s harpsichord teacher is also expected. Teaching and Supervision The teaching responsibilities include instruction and guidance in Baroque interpretation for string students, as well as teaching and mentoring in historically informed performance for students of other instruments. The appointed person is expected to lead ensembles in elective courses (Baroque ensemble) and larger projects with the academy’s chamber orchestra. Teaching and supervision will primarily take place at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, but it may also involve supervisory tasks at the doctoral level. The appointed person will be involved in the organization and execution of early music projects in collaboration with the academy’s committee for historically informed performance practice (early music). Responsibility for the academy’s Baroque string instruments, in cooperation with the academy’s other string instructors, may also be part of the position. The position may also include teaching in other subjects, depending on the institution’s needs and the qualifications of the appointed person (e.g., teaching in music history, elective courses in improvisation, etc.).
