Welsh National Opera Cardiff Section Principal Double Bass

We are currently seeking a dynamic Section Principal Double Bass to join the prestigious WNO Orchestra. Resident at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre, WNO Orchestra is one of two, permanent, full-time ensembles at the Centre of the Company, alongside the WNO Chorus. As a national company with international status, WNO sits at the heart of music-making in Wales and plays a valuable role in the communities it serves in England. Touring is the lifeblood of the Company, entertaining and inspiring audiences both across the UK and internationally.

First / Second and Third Rounds will be held in Cardiff on Tuesday 15-July, Wednesday 16-July and/or Thursday 17-July.
Candidates will only be required for one of the dates.

All successful candidates will be invited to audition by Monday 23 June 2025.

Audition Requirements:
Round 1: Vanhal OR Dittersdorf Concerto (Unaccompanied) plus orchestral excerpts (Screened Audition)
Round 2: Bottesini OR Koussevitzky Concerto (Accompanied) plus orchestral excerpts (Un-Screened Audition). You may be required to perform an additional excerpt as prepared sightreading.
Round 3: Orchestra Rehearsal Session (Selection of Orchestral Excerpts)

In-person auditions are encouraged but video auditions considered upon request if invited to audition.
