The Iceland Symphony Orchestra announces an open position for Principal Second Violin.

An audition will take place on 9 September 2025 at Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavík. The application deadline is 6 August 2025.

No application form is required; it is sufficient to apply by sending an email with a CV and copies of relevant diplomas/certificates to the Human Resources Director atstarf@sinfonia.is.

This is a full-time (100%) position as Principal Second Violin in the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
The second violin section consists of thirteen full-time positions.
Principals are the leaders of their respective sections, responsible for musical and administrative matters within the section.
The principal also participates in adjudication panels in accordance with the rules of the ISO’s board.
The principal shall perform the solo passages designated for the second violin section unless they are explicitly marked for another part.
A university degree in violin performance is required.
Salary and terms are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Iceland Symphony Orchestra’s staff union and the Ministry of Finance.
Applicants from outside the EEA must obtain a work permit, subject to approval by the Icelandic Musicians’ Union (FÍH) and the Directorate of Immigration.

1. First movement with cadenza and second movement without cadenza from one of the following concertos:
W.A. Mozart: Violin Concerto in A major, K. 219
W.A. Mozart: Violin Concerto in D major, K. 218
W.A. Mozart: Violin Concerto in G major, K. 216
2. First movement with cadenza from one of the following Romantic concertos:
P. Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35
J. Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77
J. Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47
A. Dvořák: Violin Concerto in A minor, Op. 53
L. Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61

Orchestral and Chamber Music Excerpts
Orchestral and chamber music excerpts will be sent electronically to applicants upon acceptance of their application, along with detailed information about the audition schedule and venue. In the third round of the audition, applicants may be asked to perform chamber music with members of the orchestra.
