The German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra is the joint radio symphony orchestra of Saarländischer Rundfunk and Südwestrundfunk.
Pietari Inkinen has been its principal conductor since 2017.
The orchestra currently employs 98 musicians. It gives around 70 concerts a year in Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern and in the broadcasting areas of SR and SWR, as well as at national and international concert venues.
All concerts are recorded by the radio station, resulting in around five CD recordings per year. In addition, concerts are broadcast live and online on the DRP's own YouTube channel and are available in the media libraries of SR and ARD.
In addition to works from the Classical and Romantic periods, the repertoire focuses on modern classics and symphonic works that blur the boundaries between film and jazz, as well as new and rediscovered musical creations by lesser-known composers.
As a commissioner, performer and promoter of contemporary music – especially by young composers – the orchestra fulfils an important cultural mandate.
In addition, the orchestra is dedicated to music education through educational projects and new formats.
The ensemble concerts form a series of their own.
The position is assigned to the SR.
Travel expenses and other performance costs will not be reimbursed.
The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern is not subject to the collective agreement for musicians from cultural orchestras.
Therefore, there is no collective agreement entitlement to travel expenses.
