The United States Navy Band announces an immediate vacancy for Baritone Saxophone instrumentalist in the Commodores Jazz Ensemble. A live audition will be held by invitation only on Thursday, November 20, 2025, following a pre-screening recording round. Applications and recordings must be submitted by Monday, October 20, 2025. Candidates will be contacted with results from the pre-screening round no later than Monday, October 27, 2025. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong sight-reading skills as well as proficiency both as an ensemble member and as a soloist. Applicants should showcase melodic and harmonic interpretation, improvisation across traditional and modern big band styles, and be comfortable doubling on bass clarinet and flute. Jazz is America's music and the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for more than 50 years. Since 1969, this 19-member group continues the jazz big band legacy with some of the finest musicians in the world. The Commodores' mission includes public concerts, national concert tours, ceremonial support in honoring our veterans, jazz education classes and clinics, and protocol performances for high-level military and civilian government officials. Starting salary for a new member of the U.S. Navy Band is $79,612 - $86,409.
