The Robert Schumann Philharmonic is one of Germany's most traditional orchestras. Since the beginning of the 2025/2026 season, Benjamin Reiners has been the Chief Conductor of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic and General Music Director of Theater Chemnitz.
The orchestra regularly attracts international musical luminaries. In recent years, renowned conductors such as Stefan Blunier, Peter Eötvös, Lawrence Foster, Elias Grandy, Michail Jurowski, Axel Kober, and Stefan Soltész have appeared in Chemnitz. The ensemble has also performed with top-class soloists such as Frank Dupree, Johannes Moser, Fabian Müller, Christian Schmitt, Martin Stadtfeld, Christian Tetzlaff, Vivi Vassileva, and Jan Vogler.
The Robert Schumann Philharmonic is also a sought-after partner beyond the region. Renowned venues such as the Tonhalle Zurich, the Brucknerhaus Linz, and the Vienna Musikverein are on its tour schedule, as are important German music metropolises like the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
The orchestra's high artistic quality is underscored by prestigious awards, including the ECHO Klassik and the European Cultural Award.
