About the Training

The Gürzenich Orchestra Academy promotes the next generation of orchestral musicians and sees itself as an international talent incubator for gifted instrumentalists who are prepared for their professional careers after or towards the end of their studies.

In addition to rehearsals, concerts, performances, recordings and tours in one of Germany's most distinguished symphony and opera orchestras (participation in up to 15 rehearsals and concerts/performances per month), the training includes regular instrumental and chamber music lessons by members of the orchestra, workshops and coaching offers to overcome stage fright and improve stage presence, as well as chamber concerts. The students are accompanied by mentors from the orchestra.

The duration of the training is initially limited to one year with the option of extension for another year. There is a 6-month probationary period. The notice period is 4 weeks.

The conditions include a monthly salary of €1,300 gross from the Gürzenich Orchestra and an annual allowance for reeds, sheet music and strings from the Orchestra Academy Association.

Previous, permanent substitute contracts of the applicants in other orchestras must not have lasted longer than 12 months. Previous internships (also in different orchestras) and training in academies of orchestras with a lower TVK classification must not exceed a total duration of 24 months.

• Age limit: 27 years at the beginning of the training

• Certificate of enrollment recommended

• German language skills level B1 mandatory

Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
