Spode Music Week
Annual Catholic summer music course, now in it's 72nd year. Daily scheduled orchestra and instrumental/choral ensemble rehearsals fitted around sung mass and compline, an eclectic mix of visiting lecturers and recitalists, and ad hoc chamber music, all in beautiful rural location with licensed bar and convivial company. Suits families and musicians of all ages and abilities. Non-Catholics very welcome. This year's programme includes the final scene from Wagner's Die Meistersinger, in a new arrangement for reduced orchestra and including children's choruses. Started by Dominican friars at Spode House in Derbyshire (hence the name), and now located at the magnificent Nettlecome Court on the Somerset coast. Registered charity with various bursary funds now accepting applications, and very reasonably priced for those that don't qualify. All meals included.
