The Concours International Henry Vieuxtemps is a prestigious competition for young violinists, in honour of the famous Belgian violinist Henry Vieuxtemps.
Launched in 1920 by his disciple Eugène Ysaÿe, this event is held in Verviers and aims to discover and encourage young violin talent.
During the inaugural edition, a ‘Queen's Prize’ was awarded to Alfred Dubois, a pupil of Ysaÿe.
In 1923, the competition was formalised under the patronage of Queen Elisabeth and the Verviers municipal authorities.
The objectives of the competition are to promote classical music, foster cultural exchange and provide career opportunities for young musicians.
Past winners include such illustrious names as Arthur Grumiaux and Tatiana Samouil.
The Henry Vieuxtemps International Competition continues to inspire and support the next generation of violinists while honouring Vieuxtemps's legacy.
